Rahul Gandhi is the Congress leader and has been representing the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency since 2019. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Election, Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad seat by defeating Communist Party of India (CPI) candidate PP Suneer with a margin of 4,31,770 votes. However, Gandhi was defeated by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Zubin Irani from his family's stronghold Amethi with a margin of 55,120 votes in the 2019 polls. Rahul Gandhi won three consecutive elections from Amethi in 2004, 2009 and 2014. He defeated Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidates Chandra Parkash Mishra Matiyari and Asheesh Shukla in the 2004 and 2009 polls respectively from Amethi. Rahul Gandhi again won the Amethi constituency in 2014 by defeating Smriti Zubin Irani with a margin of 1,07,903 votes. Gandhi was the president of the Congress party from 2017 to 2019.

Lashing out at Rahul Gandhi inside the Lok Sabha, Smriti Irani said: "This is the first time in the history of India that a man from Gandhi family has the audacity to insult women and call for their rape."
After being passed in the Lok Sabha, the Citizenship Amendment Bill will be taken up in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party, meanwhile, has exuded confidence of support by parties for the passage of the Bill.
Over 6,000 people took part in the rally addressed by Gandhi, who arrived here after winding up his three-day Wayanad constituency visit. "I will always be with you in fight against wrongdoings of this government," said Gandhi.
"The saddening and heart-wrenching death of the innocent daughter of Unnao, that has shamed humanity, has left me angered and stunned. Another daughter has lost her life while awaiting justice and security," Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.
Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi is all set to return to lead the party and is likely to take over after the Delhi assembly polls early next year.
