Quinton de Kock pulled out of the first-ever three-team cricket match, with Temba Bavuma replacing him as captain of Kites.

The 27-year-old had replaced Faf du Plessis as ODI skipper in January this year with South Africa's director of cricket Graeme Smith announcing in April that De Kock would not be elevated to Test captaincy.

De Kock was also named Test Cricket of the Year and was voted by his peers as the SA Men's Players' Player of the Year.

De Kock and Ngidi have both been nominated in the following three categories: SA Men's Cricketer of the Year, ODI Cricketer of the Year and T20 Cricketer of the Year. In addition, the wicketkeeper-batsman has been nominated in Test Cricketer of the Year category.

The Proteas blanked Australia 3-0 at home and De Kock stated it filled the young South African side with a lot of confidence and self-belief.

Smith's statement came despite South Africa not having a clear candidate for the post.

De Kock said former captain Faf du Plessis' comeback after being rested for the Australia series, will hold the visitors in a good stead in the upcoming ODIs.

The 29-year-old leg-spinner is a regular in Team India's limited over set-up but he is yet to play a Test match in international cricket but he surely is keeping an eye on the ongoing series.
