Speculations are rife that Bima Bharti may be fielded by the RJD from Purnea Lok Sabha seat. Though it could lead to problems with I.N.D.I.A bloc member Congress, which recently inducted ex-MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav who wants to contest that seat.

The Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar won a vote of confidence in the Assembly on February 12. The new government secured 129 votes amid a walkout by the opposition members. The Bihar assembly has a strength of 243 MLAs.

The BJP is likely to contest in 17 seats in Bihar in the Lok Sabha elections. The party may offer 14 seats to Nitish Kumar's JDU, sources said.

Filing of nominations will come to a close on March 11, and the last date for the withdrawal is March 14. Voting is scheduled for March 21.

Earlier in the day, Congress MLAs Murari Prasad Gautam and Siddharth Saurav, and RJD MLA Sangita Kumari joined the BJP. The development comes just weeks ahead of the declaration of Lok Sabha polls by the Election Commission.

The elections will be held on March 21 and the counting of the votes will begin the same evening and will have to be completed by March 23. Among the seats going to polls include that of Nitish Kumar.
