Many Punjab ministers have demanded his resignation over his jibe at Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and calling Rahul Gandhi as his 'captain'.

Meanwhile, Chawla, a prominent pro-Khalistan separatist leader shared his purported photograph with the Punjab Cabinet minister on social media.

“There were probably 5-10,000 pictures taken of and with me there (in Pakistan), I don't know who is Gopal Chawla,” news agency ANI quoted him as saying.

The Punjab chief minister, however, said that he acceded to Sidhu’s request for permission as he did not believe in stopping anyone from undertaking a “personal visit”.

Sidhu, who claimed to have paved way for Kartarpur Corridor clearance during his visit to attend Pak PM Imran Khan's oath taking ceremony, said, "Good deeds speak for themselves, the hand only interprets their eloquence."

Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate the groundbreaking ceremony of the project on November 28.

Imran Khan will lay the foundation stone for the corridor on the Pakistani side whereas President Ram Nath Kovind and Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh ill lay the foundation stone of Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak on November 26.

Sidhu expressed the hope that "this enterprise will yield undeniable and implicit change and thaw in the relations", adding "it will build bridges, burn animosity and will act like a soothing balm for two neighbouring countries.

Talking to reporters in Amritsar, Sidhu said, "The state government will give jobs to the eligible family members of those killed in the rail tragedy."

Sidhu also offered to take up the matter with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for any help from the state government in this regard.

Nobody would have blamed Dr Navjot Kaur had she not uttered this lie. First, she reached the venue late, gave her speech, and as soon as the accident took place, she just vanished. 

The railways has said it was not informed by the organisers or the local administration that a Dussehra event was being organised near the tracks. It said Saturday the tragedy was a case of trespassing and ruled out any probe.

Defending his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu, who was accused of leaving the accident site without bothering about the victims, the state culture minister said she was attending to patients at the hospital when allegations were being levelled against her.
