Narendra Modi has been the Prime Minister of India since 2014. He is a Lok Sabha member from the Varanasi constituency of Uttar Pradesh. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 282 and 303 seats in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha Elections under the leadership of Narendra Modi. In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, PM Modi won the Varanasi seat with a margin of 4,79,505 votes. He was polled 6,74,664 votes and defeated Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate Shalini Yadav who got 1,95,159 votes. In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, Modi contested on BJP ticket from the constituency for the first time and won the seat. He was polled 5,81,022 votes and defeated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Arvind Kejriwal who got 2,09,238 votes. Modi defeated Kejriwal by a margin of 3,71,784 votes. Modi also won the Vadodara seat in 2014 but decided to retain Varanasi. He was the Gujarat Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014. Modi represented Rajkot II constituency in the Gujarat Assembly in 2002 and Maninagar thrice in a row in 2002, 2007 and 2012. He is again contesting from the Varanasi constituency in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

The Centre has brought an ordinance notifying rules for the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) regarding the ‘transfer-posting, vigilance and other incidental matters' in Delhi.
The RBI said that people can exchange of Rs 2,000 notes into currency notes of other denominations up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time at any bank starting from May 23, 2023. The RBI has advised banks to stop issuing Rs 2,000 denomination banknotes with immediate effect.
RBI will withdraw Rs 2,000 currency note from circulation but it will continue to remain a legal tender.
