Mufti spent some time with Gandhi and is learnt to have discussed the current political situation in the country with the Congress president.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed petitions filed by a section of Muslim students from the Government Pre-University Girls College in Udupi, seeking permission to wear hijab inside the classroom.

Mehbooba defended her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's decision to join hands with the BJP to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir, saying his only desire was to end the bloodshed and resolve the Kashmir issue.

In a video message put up on her party's Twitter handle, Mufti described the move by the authorities as “sabotage”.

The investigation, officials said, pertains to some funds allegedly received by Tassaduq Hussain in his accounts from some Kashmir-based businesses.

Mehbooba Mufti was on the way to Press Colony in Srinagar to participate in a protest but the police did now allow her to move towards the site due to security reasons. She is not under house arrest, a senior J&K police official said.

Mehbooba Mufti, who has herself been questioned by the ED in the past in connection with another money laundering case, said that she has been protesting against the killing of innocent civilians in the outskirts of Srinagar.

Reacting to the statement of the former chief minister accusing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of "hijacking Hindutva and Hinduism", the BJP leader said “everyone knows the politics of Mehbooba, her ideology, tricks and deeds”.

She accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of hijacking "Hindutva and Hinduism" and said Sanatan Dharma does not teach communalism.  

Mehbooba was put under house arrest at her Fairview residence in Gupkar locality of the city here and not allowed to move out, a PDP leader claimed.

The students were booked under the Act that dates back to the British era allegedly for posting a WhatsApp status praising Pakistan players after the team’s victory against India in a T20 cricket match on October 24.

Taking to Twitter, Mehbooba Mufti wrote, "Why such anger against Kashmiris for celebrating Pak’s win? Some are even chanting murderous slogans- desh ke gadaaron ko goli maaro/calling to shoot traitors. One hasn't forgotten how many celebrated by distributing sweets when J&K was dismembered & stripped of special status."

“Even after turning Kashmir into an open air prison, Bipin Rawat's statement comes as no surprise because repression is GOIs only method to deal with the situation in J&K," Mehbooba Mufti said. 

Mehbooba Mufti made the remarks in response to photographs and videos on social media in which security forces are seen frisking women and minors during surprise checking in Lal Chowk.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday alleged that Bollywood star Shahrukh Khan's son Aryan Khan was being targeted by the central agencies just due to his surname, claiming that Muslims are targeted to please the core vote bank of the BJP.

Mehbooba Mufti claimed that she has been placed under house arrest to prevent her from visiting family of a Muslim man who was shot dead by CRPF personnel in Anantnag district on Thursday.
