Mehbooba Mufti is an Indian politician and former chief minister of Indian Occupied Kashmir (4th April 2016-19th June 2018). Mehbooba is the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and India's second Muslim woman chief minister after Syeda Anwara Taimur of Assam. She is the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Mehbooba suppoted the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2016 but however she resigned on 19th June,2018 after BJP withdrew support from the coalition government. Mehbooba Mufti was a member of Indian parliament representing Anantnag in the 16th Lok Sabha. She had also represented Anantnag in the 14th Lok Sabha. Her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was appointed as India's home minister in 1989 and was released after a few days in exchange for some terrorists. In 1996 state assembly elections, Mehbooba Mufti was one of the popular elected members from Bijbehra on INC ticket. Mehbooba Mufti contested in the parliamentary elections in 1999 from Srinagar and she lost to the sitting member Omar Abdullah. She won her Pahalgam seat from South Kashmir, when assembly elections were held again in 2002.

Reiterating her demand for peaceful engagement with all stakeholders in this regard, Mehbooba sought more frequent meetings at the highest levels between India and Pakistan.
"Reconciliation is the mantra which we need to follow and therefore, I request Modi ji to engage with Pakistan," she said.
"Thankful to @sachin_rt for using his MPLAD funds for the construction of a school building in Kashmir. Even off the field, he continues to inspire us all," she said on Twitter.
"I want to tell those who are trying to teach jihad to innocent Kashmiri youths that they should first learn the real concept of jihad in Islam," he said.
The Chief Minister sent a letter to Governor NN Vohra informing that she is removing Drabu, sources close to Mehbooba Mufti told news agency IANS.
Six people, including two militants, were killed in a firing incident last night in south Kashmir's Shopian district after the ultras fired upon a joint check-point of the security forces.
The PDP leader hailed the people of Jammu for upholding the tenets of tolerance, brotherhood and amity, and appealed the youths to uphold this tradition strictly and carry it forward to be emulated by other societies.
Mehbooba also informed the prime minister about the execution of the Rs 1 Lakh crore Prime Minister's Development Package in the state, while underlining the need for public outreach for effectively percolating down the benefits of such a package.
"Appalled by the marches & protests in defense of the recently apprehended rapist in Kathua. Also horrified by their (protesters') use of our national flag in these demonstrations, this is nothing short of desecration," Mehbooba tweeted.
Congress president also attacked the prime minister, saying while he was "dithering", soldiers were paying with their blood because of the "opportunistic" alliance in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mufti's statement comes after six people, including five army jawans, lost their lives in the Sunjuwan attack and one security personnel laid his life in the Srinagar attack today.

CM Mufti also interacted with the doctors and enquired about the condition of the injured. She assured all support from the state government in their treatment, the spokesperson was quoted as saying in a statement.
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command, Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu, apprised the Chief Minister on the attack and the operation to flush out militants from Sunjuwan Army camp.
During the meeting today, Dineshwar Sharma informed CM Mehbooba Mufti about his ongoing four-day visit to Jammu. They also discussed the emerging geopolitical developments in the region since Sharma's last visit to the state.
"As many as 66 youths joined militancy in 2015, 88 in 2016 and 126 in 2017," the chief minister said while replying to a written question by National Conference leader Ali Mohammed Sagar.
In reply to a written question by a ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator in the upper house of the bicameral legislature, she said those who died included 41 civilians and 56 security personnel.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said that the incident goes against the spirit of his outreach for Kashmiris.
A video of Dar tied to a moving Army vehicle had gone viral. The incident occurred on April 9 -- the day bypolls for the Srinagar Lok Sabha seat were held -- in Budgam last year.
