Mehbooba Mufti is an Indian politician and former chief minister of Indian Occupied Kashmir (4th April 2016-19th June 2018). Mehbooba is the first woman chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and India's second Muslim woman chief minister after Syeda Anwara Taimur of Assam. She is the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Mehbooba suppoted the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2016 but however she resigned on 19th June,2018 after BJP withdrew support from the coalition government. Mehbooba Mufti was a member of Indian parliament representing Anantnag in the 16th Lok Sabha. She had also represented Anantnag in the 14th Lok Sabha. Her father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was appointed as India's home minister in 1989 and was released after a few days in exchange for some terrorists. In 1996 state assembly elections, Mehbooba Mufti was one of the popular elected members from Bijbehra on INC ticket. Mehbooba Mufti contested in the parliamentary elections in 1999 from Srinagar and she lost to the sitting member Omar Abdullah. She won her Pahalgam seat from South Kashmir, when assembly elections were held again in 2002.

Mehbooba further said in the statement, the decision taken by Pakistan is appreciable and the same was reciprocated with grace and statesmanship by the leadership of our country.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president called for immediate rollback of the decision taken by Governor S P Malik-led state administrative council (SAC).
“Shocked to see baseless allegations against mainstream parties in JK following dictates from Pakistan levelled by @rammadhavbjp ji,” PDP chief Mufti said in a series of tweets.
The Governor played a masterstroke at night and abruptly dissolved the assembly, ending all possibilities of government formation.
In a statement issued by the Raj Bhavan, Governor Malik said there were reports of extensive horse-trading and possible exchange of money in order to secure support from legislators.
In a terse announcement, Governor Satya Pal Malik said that he was exercising powers conferred on him by the Jammu and Kashmir Constitution and dissolving the House which had two more years to go.
Speculation have been rife since Tuesday night that the three parties were planning to join forces to restrict BJP's chances of returning to power.
"Pushing youth to the wall will be counter productive. Centre must intervene in withdrawing cases against students & AMU authorities must revoke their suspension,” she posted on Twitter.
Describing the situation in the Valley as grave, Mehbooba Mufti urged political parties to find a solution to end the bloodshed. She iterated the need of dialogue with Pakistan.
Mehbooba asserted that dialogue was the only way forward to address the issue of terrorism in the state.
Mehbooba nominated senior leader and former minister Abdul Rehman Veeri as the vice-president of the party, a PDP spokesman said in Srinagar.
She was referring to the reports of two of BJP MLAs from Jammu region coming out in support of Article 35-A, which is facing a legal challenge in the Supreme Court.
"Way should also be paved for bringing the Hurriyat leaders on the table for holding a dialogue. I have said it when I was in power and I am saying it again when I am out of power," Mehbooba said.
Adding to Mehbooba's woes, another party leader Abdul Majeed Paddar organised a separate event in Kulgam with his supporters claiming his faction to be the original PDP.
Rebel PDP leader Majeed Padroo claimed that they have the number to form the government with the BJP. He added that the CM will be from Jammu and Kashmir .
The rebels also said that they consider the "accession of Jammu and Kashmir with India as final."
"Knowing or unknowingly she has only exposed her proximity to separatists," the BJP said.
Mehbooba Mufti said efforts by 'New Delhi' to break PDP will only increase trouble in the Valley and more separatists like Salahuddin and Yasin Malik would be born.
Talking about ways to restore peace in Kashmir at Rajat Sharma's show Aap ki Adalat, the former chief minister said that more trade routes should be opened between India and Pakistan to encourage trade.
