Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday unveiled India's uniform for the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The 34-year-old winner of six Grand Slams in doubles took to Twitter to thank everyone for their help.

Sangeeta, who has represented India in U-18 and U-19 tournaments in Bhutan and Thailand before being called for the senior women's team, has been working at a brick kiln in Dhanbad's Basamudi village.

The Tokyo Games are scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 8 this year after getting postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rijiju posted the comment while wishing Olympic-bound shooters a successful trip to Croatia, for which they left earlier in the day.

A 15-member Olympic-bound Indian team will depart for Zagreb, Croatia on May 11 in a chartered flight to participate in the European Championship, to be held in Osijek from May 20 to June 6.

Rijiju was in Uttarakhand on Friday to inaugurate a Water Sports and Adventure Institute in Tehri.

Rijiu said the government has provided all possible support to the country's athletes in preparation for the Olympics, and it is now their job to make the Games a "memorable" one for India.

The ISSF Combined World Cup will be held in New Delhi from March 18 to 29 with shooters from more than 40 countries, including UK and Brazil, taking part in the event.

Rijiju said all requirements of athletes heading into the Tokyo Olympics are being met.

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Thursday launched the material synthesized by collaborative efforts of NDTL and NIPER Guwahati.

A 30-day camp will see players being monitored and analysed. 

The Union Sports Minister admitted that the calendar for the games was in jeopardy due to COVID-19 and that the infrastructure was also affected.

Rijiju requested WADA chief Witold Banka, to allow NDTL, suspended till January next year, to resume dope analysis as soon as possible.

Narayanan had to pay custom duty of Rs 6,300 to get the gold medal which he won in the FIDE Online Chess Olympiad in August this year.

Rijiju made the statement during a virtual session on the occasion of 29th World Disability Day.

The union sports minister also said that the country is expected to send the largest ever contingent of athletes to the postponed Tokyo Olympics which is scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 8 next year.

There will be a special focus on developing sports science facilities at all the academies to improve the overall quality of training.

Defender Manitombi Singh, who died in August at the age of 39 in Imphal after long illness, was the only earning member of his family and is survived by parents, wife and an eight-year-old son.

Last year, both the hockey teams secured their Olympic berth in Bhubaneswar following a successful outing in the Olympic Qualifiers at the Kalinga Stadium.
