All ministers were on Saturday asked to resume office from Monday along with joint secretary-level officers and one-third of their essential staff.

Kiren Rijiju's office on Thursday evening said the Indian Embassy in San Francisco has been contacted and they are sending a doctor to attend Ashok Diwan who is currently dealing with health issues.

Rijiju held a meeting with regional directors of all SAI centres across the country through a video conference call and took a stock of the situation. He also deliberated upon measures needed to be taken once the lockdown is lifted.

Kiren Rijiju has lauded the Indian men's football team and former players for their helping hand towards the fight against COVID-19, saying young athletes have shown the way.

Deputy chief national athletics coach Radhakrishnan Nair, who is supporting the move, told that the Hima-led campers at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) are expecting a reply from the ministry in a day or two.

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said the academic training at the National Centre of Excellence and Sports Authority of India Centres will also be suspended. The Olympics are scheduled for July-August this year.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed over 6,000 lives and infected close to 160,000 people worldwide, has led to the cancellation or postponement of all sporting events across the globe.
