Former Congress MP and former Union Minister Jitin Prasada is Cabinet minister in the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh. In September 2021, UP BJP announced a sudden Cabinet expansion, and Prasada was inducted into the Yogi Adityanath government. Jitin Prasad is Minister of Technical Education of Uttar Pradesh. Jitin, son of the late Congress veteran Jitendra Prasada, was once seen as a ‘Young Turk’ who would play a key role in Rahul Gandhi’s team. He was appointed as In-Charge for West Bengal for Congress, ahead of 2021. On 9 June 2021, Jitin Prasada, once close with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, switched loyalties to the saffron party (BJP). He represented Dhaurahra (Lok Sabha constituency) of district Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh in the 15th Lok Sabha. In 2001, Jitin Prasad started his career with Indian Youth Congress as a general secretary. In 2004, he won his first election and was elected Member of the Parliament in the 14th Lok Sabha from his hometown constituency of Shahjahanpur, UP. Prasada attended The Doon School, Dehradun at roughly the same time as politicians Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo and Dushyant Singh. He did a degree in commerce from the Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University and then completed his MBA from IMI, New Delhi.

Though there is no official word on whether there will be a Cabinet expansion in Uttar Pradesh, sources said Jitin Prasada, who comes from a noted Brahmin family of the state with political heft, and AK Sharma may be accommodated in such an eventuality.
