South Africa's search for an alternative to Quinton de Kock, after the latter suffered a dip in form in 2017-18 season ended with Klaasen whose big-hitting took everyone by surprise on his debut against India. Combined with a safe pair of gloves, Klaasen gives Proteas added ammunition late in the innings with his booming drives and huge sixes. His presence in the middle order gives the likes of Dean Elgar and Hashim Amla the cushion to build their innings before going big at the end. Especially since their superstar AB de Villiers has bid adieu to the game in 2018.

Klaasen, often on the fringes of South Africa's limited-overs teams, made 123 not out from 114 balls as the home team posted 291-7 in Paarl.
Klaasen, who made his International debut during India's tour of South Africa earlier this year, came into the limelight for his performances in the limited overs format.
Klaasen said his innings was better than the Wanderers cameo wherein rain and a truncated game also provided a T20-like situation for him to chase the total down.
Chasing a challenging target of 189, South Africa rode on local boy Klaasen's 69 off 30 deliveries and skipper Duminy's unbeaten 64 off 40 balls to chase down the score with six wickets in hand and 8 balls to spare.
