Congress (Dooru)

Ghulam Ahmad Mir is the senior Congress leader and the former president of the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) from 2015 to 2022. Mir represented the Dooru Assembly constituency twice in 2002 and 2008 and is again contesting the 2024 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election from the seat. In the 2002 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Mir won the seat by defeating Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) candidate Syed Manzoor Ahmad with a margin of 11,342 votes. In the 2008 Assembly elections, Mir retained his seat after defeating Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) candidate Syed Farooq Ahmad Andrabi by 5,918 votes. However, Andrabi avenged his defeat in 2014 and defeated Mir by just 161 votes. Mir contested the Assembly election from Dooru for the first time in 1996 but lost to JKNC's Ghulam Hassan Wani. Ghulam Ahmad Mir also lost the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from the Anantnag constituency when he was defeated by JKNC leader Hasnain Masoodi with a margin of 6,676 votes.
