Dr. Dinesh Sharma was deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh who had previously served as the mayor of Lucknow twice. He was first elected to the office in November 2006. He won again in July 2012. Dinesh Sharma started his political journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He was later named the state President of the BJP's Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (Youth Wing). After serving two terms as the mayor of Lucknow, he became the National Vice-President of Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014. On 19 March 2017, he was appointed as one of two Deputy Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Dinesh Sharma was born on 12 January 1964 in Lucknow. He is also a lifetime member of the World Association for Vedic Studies. Dinesh Sharma has been a professor in the commerce department at the University of Lucknow. He has guided roughly two dozen Ph.D. students since his joining in 1992. The Bharatiya Janata Party will contest the 2022 Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh on its own. The saffron party had won 312 out of the 403 assembly seats in UP in the last assembly polls, while its allies won 13.
