Captain Abhimanyu is the leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the former Haryana minister. Abhimanyu won the Narnaund Assembly constituency in the 2014 Haryana state polls by defeating Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) candidate Raj Singh Mor with a margin of 5,761 votes and became the Cabinet minister with independent charge in the Manohar Lal Khattar government. He held several ministries, including Finance, Revenue, Excise, Planning, Law, Industry, Labour, Environment, and Forest. However, he lost the 2019 Haryana Assembly polls from Narnaund to Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) candidate Ram Kumar Gautam by 12,029 votes. Abhimanyu stood in third place with 37,949 votes (29.38%) in the 2009 Haryana polls from Narnaund. He is again contesting from the Narnaund constituency in the 2024 Haryana Assembly polls. The BJP leader contested the Rohtak Lok Sabha seat in 2004 against Congress candidate Bhupinder Singh Hooda and lost by a big margin of 1,50,435 votes. He again fought from the same seat in the 2005 bypoll when Hooda became the Haryana CM but lost against his son Deepender Singh Hooda with a margin of 2,32,098 votes.
