AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday took a dig at RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat over his remarks that Muslims in the country was happy, saying the Constitution and not "magnanimity of majority" determined it.

Owaisi questioned the basis on which 81-year-old Farooq Abdullah was detained. Owaisi rhetorically asked whether Abdullah became a threat to Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.

In a rhetotical manner, he asked whether the government wanted Muslims to sacrifice themselves."I stand to opppse the bill. BJP has definitely live up to the electoral promise in their manifesto. But you have not lived up to your constitutional duties. You've indulged in breach of a constitutional promise of Article 370," the AIMIM president said.

“PM Narendra Modi does not want Muslims to join the mainstream. Out of 300 MPs (of the BJP), not even one is from the Muslim community,” said the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi also opposed the bill. “Triple Talaq Bill is not in the interest of the Muslim women,” he said

During oath taking of Asaduddin Owaisi, Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, witnessed 'Jai Shri Ram' chants by its members. On this, the president of the AIMIM, in a lighter way, signalled MPs to chant even louder. As a result, the house witnessed some lighter moments.

Asaduddin Owaisi is a three-time Member of Parliament (MP), representing the Hyderabad constituency in Lok Sabha.

On the killing of two-year-old girl in Aligarh, Owaisi said nobody came out in support of accused Zahid and Aslam. "We are condemning all such incidents. Justice should be done in all cases, irrespective of the community the accused come from," he said.

TRS spokesperson Abid Rasool Khan claimed Friday the 12 MLAs decided to become part of the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao-led outfit because of the development and welfare programmes of the government and "positiveness" of voters towards the ruling party.

AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi had earlier said that Muslims do not suddenly become 'second class citizens' of India after BJP's lanslide victory in elections. Naqvi said that such statements do not help anyone and under PM Narendra Modi eveyone feels secured.
