Amit Shah is the senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has been the Union Home Minister since 2019. He has also been serving as the Union Minister of Co-operation since 2021. Shah was the president of the BJP from 2014 to 2020. He has been a Lok Sabha member from the Gandhinagar constituency of Gujarat since 2019. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Shah won the Gandhinagar seat by defeating Congress candidate Dr CJ Chavda with a margin of 5,57,014 votes. He was the Minister of State for Home, Law and Justice, Prison, Border Security, Civil Defence, Excise, Home Guards, Transport, Prohibition, Gram Rakshak Dal, Police Housing, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs in Gujarat in the Narendra Modi-led government from 2002 to 2012. Shah won the Sarkhej Assembly constituency in Gujarat in 1997 (bypoll), 1998, 2002 and 2007. He also represented the Naranpura Assembly seat from 2012 to 2017. Shah also served as the Rajya Sabha member from 2017 to 2019. Amit Shah is again contesting from the Gandhinagar constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Income tax assessments will be "completely faceless", without the taxpayer having to face the taxman, in about two years and assessees will be provided pre-filled return forms as part of the government's initiative to simplify procedures, a senior government official said on Sunday.
The BJP chief described the hike in income tax exemption announced by Finance Minister Piyush Goyal as "historic" and said it will not only provide tax relief to the middle class but also deepen their participation in the country's development.

The TMC chief's strong reaction comes after BJP president Amit Shah on Tuesday alleged Banerjee's paintings were bought by chit fund owners for crores of rupees.
"Amit Shah is daydreaming. The BJP should first concentrate on defending its government at the Centre,” TMC leader Suvendu Adhikari said.
While the BJP accused the hooligans backed by TMC for attacking their party workers on their way back from Shah's rally, the state ruling party leaders blamed BJP supporters for the vandalism.

Addressing a public rally in East Midnapore's Contai district , Shah said he wanted to assure all the refugees staying in Bengal that they will be given citizenship by the Modi government.
"When BJP government was formed, within one year Modi ji delivered on his promise on One rank one pension (OROP). Modi ji gave OROP to our jawans, Congress gave 'only Rahul only Priyanka'," he said.
Shah’s speech was also slammed by Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim, who said those who have "blood on their hands" should not lecture others.
Shah also mocked at the prime ministerial ambitions of the various opposition leaders present at the Brigade Parade Ground rally.
In his first public rally after recovering from swine flu, Amit Shah slammed Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government and said it would bite the bust in the 2019 general elections.
Malda district BJP president Sanjit Mishra said Shah will land at Bagdogra airport from where he will take a helicopter to Malda. He would reach Narayanpur, where a temporary helipad has been constructed for landing of his helicopter.
Over the last few years, the BJP has emerged as the main opposition in the state with a significant show in rural polls and by-elections.
Shah, who has just recovered from swine flu, is scheduled to address a rally in Malda on Tuesday.
The BJP has previously accused the state government of putting hurdles in the political programmes of its top leaders, including Shah, by denying or delaying permission for holding them.
State BJP leaders feel Shah's rallies will help the party give a "befitting reply" to the Trinamool Congress' January 19 mega show.
Last week, the BJP had submitted a fresh application before the government, seeking permission to hold a ‘Ganatantra Bachao Yatra’, after it failed to get clearance from the Supreme Court for its proposed rath yatra.
BJP President Amit Shah has been discharged from AIIMS Delhi where he was admitted for his treatment of swine flu, BJP leader Anil Baluni told media.
