Amit Shah is the senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has been the Union Home Minister since 2019. He has also been serving as the Union Minister of Co-operation since 2021. Shah was the president of the BJP from 2014 to 2020. He has been a Lok Sabha member from the Gandhinagar constituency of Gujarat since 2019. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Shah won the Gandhinagar seat by defeating Congress candidate Dr CJ Chavda with a margin of 5,57,014 votes. He was the Minister of State for Home, Law and Justice, Prison, Border Security, Civil Defence, Excise, Home Guards, Transport, Prohibition, Gram Rakshak Dal, Police Housing, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs in Gujarat in the Narendra Modi-led government from 2002 to 2012. Shah won the Sarkhej Assembly constituency in Gujarat in 1997 (bypoll), 1998, 2002 and 2007. He also represented the Naranpura Assembly seat from 2012 to 2017. Shah also served as the Rajya Sabha member from 2017 to 2019. Amit Shah is again contesting from the Gandhinagar constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

Home Minister, Amit Shah, praised Yogi Adityanath-led state government for action against criminals. "Today, criminals and mafia are seen either in jail, outside the boundary of UP or in the list of candidates of Akhilesh Yadav. Today, Azam Khan, Atiq Ahmed and Mukhtar Ansari are in jail and it is so because there is a BJP government in the state," Shah said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday launched a scathing attack at the Samajwadi Party (SP) ahead of the forthcoming elections saying mafias in Uttar Pradesh can only be found in jails or in the candidate list of the SP.
Amit Shah was addressing an indoor public meeting, about 30 kms from state capital Panaji, to campaign for a BJP candidate ahead of the February 14 Assembly polls.
The mural, commissioned by the KVIC, was put together by 75 potters from across the country. A workshop was organized in Ahmedabad to educate potters on this technique.

Addressing a press conference after chairing a meeting of the Assam cabinet, Sarma had said the two states will submit their recommendations to the Centre and urge it to take the matter forward.
Along with rallies and election programmes, Shah will also hold meetings with the leaders of the party to take stock of the election situation, and accordingly, give necessary instructions to the party leaders and workers.
