Hyderabad: YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy said here today that his party would organise protests at all district collectorates on December 5 against the Telugu Desam Party government's alleged failure to implement its promised loan waiver scheme.

“Usually, it takes a couple of years for the anti-incumbency factor to set in for any government, but it is widespread and very strong in Andhra Pradesh in less than six months since the TDP government is pursuing anti-people policies. We will be the people's voice and hold protest meetings across the state with the affected sections joining us in large numbers,” a YSR Congress release quoted the party president as saying.

“We will ask the Andhra Pradesh chief minister pointed questions on behalf of the people and intensify our agitation further if the state continues to neglect farmers, women groups, pensioners and other sections,” he said in the release.

The “deception” in the loan waiver scheme is very clear.  Farmers are forced to pay a penal interest at the rate of 14 per cent, while the budgetary allocation is very meagre,” he said.

He said that the TDP government had drastically cut down the number of social security pension beneficiaries.

“Since actual number of beneficiaries are 43,11,686 and the amount allocated in the budget is less than one-third of what is required to pay them, it makes the Andhra Pradesh chief minister's intentions very clear. He has slashed the number of beneficiaries to suit the paltry amount he has allocated in the budget,” he said.
