Rohtak: Haryana government has decided to make Yoga compulsory in all schools and equip all sports stadiums in every district with a yoga centre.

During zero hour period, yoga practice will be held in all schools and it will be treated as an integral part of the sports training programme, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said while unveiling the new sports policy 'Haryana Physical Activities and Sports Policy-2015' on the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, here yesterday.

"Appropriate techniques will be introduced to help sportspersons improve their flexibility, concentration and mental strength which are pre-requisites for high quality performance. One yoga centre in all district sports stadia will be opened as an integral part for training and practice," he said.

The Chief Minister also said municipal bodies and Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) would construct yoga practice halls in their areas of jurisdiction.

Special coaching of physical education teachers in yoga will be organized. The Education Department will include yoga as a subject in the curricula of all degree and diploma-level programmes of physical education.

The International Day of Yoga would be celebrated on June 21 every year. Besides Yoga camps, yoga competitions will be organized at various levels for different segments and age-groups, the Chief Minister said.
