Hyderabad: Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda today said practising yoga is a way of life and it should not be seen as merely a health activity. Participating in the first International Yoga Day celebrations at Sanjeevaiah Park here, Nadda said this may be a world record wherein millions of people have participated and are performing yoga across the world.
“It will be the largest public preventable health activity in the world as millions of people are going to join in the program. It is not proper if you consider yoga just a health activity, but it is a way of life,” Nadda said.
Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya and Telangana BJP President Kishan Reddy participated in the event among others. Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan along with first lady Vimala Narasimhan and other Raj Bhavan officials participated in the yoga programme at Raj Bhavan here.
Uniformed services personnel, yoga practitioners and school children performed the ancient exercise technique at various programmes held across Telangana to mark this day.
The United Nations had in December declared June 21 as International Yoga Day, with 177 countries voting in favour. The proposal had been mooted by the Prime Minister during his first address to the UN General Assembly in September.
