Kolkata, Apr 15: CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury today refused to attach any importance to opinion polls conducted by several newspapers and TV channel that have gone against the Left Front and said such predictions have always proved wrong.

“I have every respect for those organisations which conducted such opinion polls. But such results have always gone wrong in the past. Anyway, I admire their tenacity,” the CPI(M) politburo leader said at a press conference here.

Asked if he was confident of Left Front returning to power this time, Yechury said, “The Leftists are great fighters. We always enter the battle only to win.”

To another question relating to the Left Front failing to win in 2009 Lok Sabha polls, Yechury said, “(Trinamool Chief) Mamata Banerjee had forecast her coming to power in 2006 Assembly elections and had said that she would hold her press conference at Writers' Buildings (state secretariat). Did that happen?” he asked.

Two separate opinion polls had yesterday projected that the Trinamool Congress-Congress combine will secure comfortable majority in West Bengal. PTI
