Raipur: Women are not safe in the BJP government's rule in Chhattisgarh, main Opposition in the state, Congress has alleged.

“It is unfortunate that the BJP, which succeeded in forming the government in the state by promising safety and security for women, has failed to do so,” state Congress unit president Bhupesh Baghel said here today.

To further substantiate his point, Baghel cited various incidents in the state, like the last year's sterilisation botch-up leading to death of nearly 13 women, alleged removal of uterus of some women in the state by doctors for money, the Jhaliyamari incident (in which tribal girls of a residential school in Jhaliyamari village of Kanker district were allegedly raped in 2013), and over thousand women reportedly being missing in Jashpur.

He also cited another incident of Durg district, which recently came to light, in which an injured college student was in June last year allegedly raped during admission in a government hospital after being administered an injection which rendered her unconscious.

Later, she was harassed by two police constables with an obscene video of her which they had shot.

Baghel said that the incident of the patient being administered a sedative, instead of being provided proper treatment, and then raped and later blackmailed by police personnel proves that there is no rule of law in the state.

There cannot be anything more scary than a girl being forced to bear the harassment for six months after being intimidated, the Congress leader said.

Even after the incident came to light, the police and the health department tried to shield the culprits instead of taking immediate action, he alleged.

This makes it clear that women are not safe in Chhattisgarh, he added.
