Panaji: Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar today said the government will ensure that the order book of Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) here will remain full under the 'Make in India' initiative.
"GSL has a strong R&D orientation which keeps it ahead of other shipyards in the country. With 'Make in India' focus of the present government, it will ensure that order book of the efficient shipyard like GSL remains full, so that capacities created at huge government cost are fully utilised," Parrikar told reporters after visiting the shipyard,located at Vasco, 40 km from here.
The former Goa Chief Minister was accorded a grand welcome by GSL employees on this occasion.
A presentation on the growth trajectory of GSL, its in-house design capability, product profile and future potential was made to the Union Minister.
GSL chairman and managing director Rear Admiral Shekhar Mital apprised Parrikar of the ongoing construction of off- shore patrol vessels for the Indian Coast Guard and also for the exports.
