Nizamabad(AP), Mar 23 : Without ruling out the possibility of merger of his party with Congress, TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao tonight said he would "ask the people of
Telangana on what to do" if the Congress leadership came up with such a proposal as a quid pro quo for formation of the separate state."There is no such proposal (of merger with Congress) before me. No one talked to me about it. If at all such a proposal comes, what will KCR do? He will ask the people of Telangana as to what to do? KCR does not have his own decisions. He will abide by whatever people order him," he said, addressing a meeting tonight at Banswada in Nizamabad district.
Rao talked about the issue of merger as some news channels carried stories yesterday that TRS would be merged with Congress in return for formation of separate Telangana. The stories were angrily condemned by Rao and other TRS leaders.
The stories were part of a conspiracy to halt the growth of TRS, the TRS chief claimed. He asserted that TRS would exist and work for the welfare of Telangana people even after the formation of separate state.
However, this is not the first time that reports of merger of TRS with Congress have surfaced. Responding to the comments of a Congress MP at a meeting few months ago, the TRS chief reportedly indicated that he is ready for the merger. He reportedly said he is ready to wash the feet of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi for formation of separate Telangana. Rao, however, said the media had misquoted him.PTI
