Srinagar: Farooq Abdullah, suffering from severe kidney failure, is all set to get a new lease of life, thanks to none other than his wife Molly.

Farooq Abdullah, lying in a London hospital, was on the lookout for a suitable kidney  donor who could save his life.  His search came to an end when his own England-born wife Molly, who is mostly estranged, came to his rescue and offered to donate one of her kidneys to former J&K Chief Minister. The news has been confirmed by   Mustafa Kamal, Farooq's brother, to The Telegraph published from Kolkata.

He ( Farooq) has been awaiting a kidney transplant since last month at a London hospital. It had to be postponed because of a slight infection…. Luckily for him and for all of us, his wife's kidney has matched… and she will be the donor," said  Kamal .

Molly, a trained nurse herself and mother of present Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah and his three sisters, met Farooq while he was studying medicine in the UK. Farooq and Molly tied the knot  in the mid- 1960s. Molly came to Kashmir to live with her husband while he was still learning the intricacies of politics under his father Sheikh Abdullah.

For last two decades, Molly mostly lives in UK with her daughter HIna.
