Srinagar: National Conference leader Nasir Aslam Wani's son was shown brandishing an AK-47 gun outside his residence in Srinagar and the same was posted on Facebook.
Later, Nasir Aslam Wani defended his son and said he was not aware about the incident, but would check. The incident reportedly took place in Ganderbal.
"My son wants to become a police officer to serve the nation. I will nevertheless check when these pictures were taken", the NC leader said. Wani later went on record to say that the video footage was doctored.
National Conference leaders said, Wani's son was only brandishing the gun and was not threatening anybody. "Please do not exaggerate things", said one NC leader Surinder Singh.
Wani was recently embroiled in a controversy in which he kicked a party worker.
BJP leader Sunil Sethi described Wani's son brandishing a gun as "a reckless act". "The officials who allowed him to do this should also be held responsible. Wani's son was brandishing an assault weapon, and this is a serious matter."
