Garhwa (Jharkhand), Aug 18: Senior CPI (ML-Liberation) leader Tahir Ansari, who has been evading arrest on several charges for the last about 20 years, was today taken uin custody in Garhwa district.
Police, who have been trailing Ansari, nabbed him in Bhandaria while he was allegedly convincing Zilla Parishad members not to vote against a no-confidence motion moved by 17 members against their chairperson Susma Mehta, sources said.
The voting would take place on August 21.
Mehta had been kidnapped by the Maoists minutes after the rebels had killed 13 policemen near the jungles of Bariganwa of the district. She was freed a few days later.
Meanwhile, CPI (ML-Liberation) MLA Vinod Kumar Singh said Ansari is a senior member of the party's state committee and demanded that he be produced before a court immediately.
