She became a representative of the Dhoplur constituency in Rajasthan assembly. In 1987 she became the vice president of Rajasthan state unit of BJP and in 1989 she was elected as an MP from Jhalawar.
Her popularity grew to such an extent that she won the Jhalawar seat for five consecutive terms.
