BJP MP Varun Gandhi on Saturday criticised the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government for the rise in prices of essential commodities. At a public meeting in the Shikarpur mandi here, Varun spoke of price rise and termed Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar as 'Ravan' and Mayawati as 'Surpnakha' and accused them of failing to rein in prices.
The Pilibhit MP also advocated common people becoming MPs, saying "ab keval Gandhi, Scindia or Pilot jaise rajnatik parivar ke log he nahin aam admi ko bhe Sansad me ana hoga (Now not only members of political families like Gandhi, Scindia or Pilot but the common man also has to enter Parliament).
Varun, on seeing the massive police arrangements, also asked in a lighter vein whether Chief Minister Mayawati wanted to put him behind bars once again. He also referred to his father Sanjay Gandhi. PTI
