Valsad: Gujarat's Valsad Lok Sabha seat has yet again emerged as ‘politically auspicious', with the BJP candidate emerging as a clear winner from here and the party is poised to form government at the Centre.

BJP candidate K C Patel has won against Congress' two-time MP Kishan Patel by a whopping margin of 2,08,412 votes from Valsad seat, which is considered as the ‘luckiest' seat in the state.

Kishan Patel, who was given ticket by Congress for the third time as he had managed to win in 2004 when Congress-led UPA-I was formed, got 4,08,003 votes while BJP's K C Patel has secured 6,16,415 votes.

Interestingly, NOTA (none of the above) has secured third place here with 26,552 votes polled in this option.

As per the country's electoral history, it is the biggest co-incidence for LS elections that a political party which wins Valsad seat forms government at the Centre.

Valsad, one of the 26 seats of Gujarat, due to this trendVis considered auspiciously crucial for the political partiesas local leaders see it as the “gateway” to Delhi.

The belief of the political parties has been validated by the past records, which indicate that Atal Bihari Vajpayee led BJP won the seat for the first time in 1996 which helped the party run a 13-day-long central government.

Vajpayee again got elected as prime minister of the country in 1998 and 1999 and Valsad was then also won by BJP.

However in 2004, Congress candidate Kishan Patel clinched the seat from BJP and his party formed a coalition government at the Centre.

Again in 2009, Congress repeated Kishan Patel, who managed victory by getting 7,169 more votes than BJP candidate D C Patel.

The trend has been repeated, as BJP candidate today won the seat and the saffron party is set for a landslide victory in polls.
