Hitting out at the UPA-led government at the Centre, BJP on Monday said it does not have the guts to conduct an enquiry to ascertain the source of currency notes used to make multi-crore rupee garlands presented to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on two occasions recently.
"Mayawati wore cash garlands made with corrupt money. However, the Union government does not have the courage to initiate an enquiry into the source of the money," leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said at a party function in Kanpur on Monday.
The senior BJP leader also flayed the Union and the Uttar Pradesh governments for failing to combat price rise.
"In spite of the country's top post being held by a economist, the UPA government at the Centre is not taking any strong steps to combat price rise of essential commodities," Jaitley said without taking name of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
He said BJP would launch a mass rally on April 21 in Delhi against Centre on the price rise issue.
He also alleged that the Centre was not taking any strong action against Naxals. PTI
