Mumbai/Lucknow :  Four more State Congress units on Monday left it to party President Sonia Gandhi to choose its chiefs with those in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Goa authorising her to take the decision.

On Sunday,  the Congress units in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in unanimous resolutions left it to Gandhi, who recently bagged a record fourth term as Congress president, to decide on the party's leadership in states.

All the units adopted resolutions unanimously authorising Gandhi to nominate state unit president, committee and AICC delegates.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Subhash Shirodkar said the decision to let Gandhi chose the state unit president was taken to avoid groupism, discontent and differences in the party.

"Newly elected UPCC delegates today unanimously authorised national president Sonia Gandhi to nominate the president, new committee and AICC delegates from the state," AICC general secretary and UP in-charge Digvijay Singh told reporters in Lucknow.

The decision was taken during a meeting of newly elected PCC delegates held at UPCC headquarters.

In Mumbai, a one line resolution authorising Gandhi to elect the new Maharashtra and Mumbai unit Congress chiefs was passed at a meeting of the newly elected district Congress committee presidents and PCC delegates.

Apart from the state and Mumbai presidents, the meeting resolved that Gandhi will take the final decision regarding appointment of executive committee office-bearers, Pradesh Election Committee and AICC members.

Today was the last day of filing of nomination for posts. Election if any is scheduled for September 17.

State Congress leaders in MP and Goa too authorised Gandhi to choose their next president and other office-bearers.

While Congress leaders in Madhya Pradesh passed the resolution today, those in Goa passed it yesterday.

Congress leader Narendra Budhania, who is in-charge of the party's Madhya Pradesh organisational elections, said in Bhopal that the name of the next MP Congress President would be announced by Gandhi.

To a query, he said that all senior leaders of the party from the State had fully cooperated with him in the election process.

In Panaji, Shirodkar, who took over the reins of the party unit in Goa, in September 2008, said that no list of probables was prepared to be sent to Sonia.

"She will decide who is suitable for the post," he said adding, "This is required for the healthy atmosphere in the party." PTI
