Earlier, both houses of the state assembly witnessed uproar over the police officer's killing. Pradeep Mathur, Congress legislature party leader in the state assembly chided the UP government for "jungleraaj and goondaism" and said the state was in the throes of unprecedented lawlessness.
Nirmal Khatri, state president of the Congress, demanded that Raja Bhaiyya be arrested within 15 days and threatened to take out a march from Pratapgarh and stage a sit-in outside the chief minister's residence.
"This is not just a matter of morality, but a criminal offence. It should be taken to a logical conclusion," Khatri said.
