UP legislators get monthly hike of Rs 40,000

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Government on Thursday green signalled a substantial hike in salary and other emoluments -- to the tune of nearly Rs 40,000 per month for all legislators and pension for Ex-MLAs of the state.

The Assembly unanimously passed the Uttar Pradesh Legislature Members' Emoluments and Pension) (Amendment) Bill 2015. This is the second hike in five years that would increase the total earnings of legislators from nearly Rs 60,000 to nearly Rs 1 lakh per month.

In the current assembly session, raising the issue Rashtriya Lok Dal MLA Chaudhary  Dalbir Singh said, Uttar Pradesh MLAs are the least paid as compared to the salary that elected representatives get in other states.

He was seconded  by BJP Rashtriya Lok Dal MLA Chaudhary Dalbir Singh who pressed for a hike in M LA Area Development fund . The proposal got  support of all MLAs cutting across the party lines.

According to the amendments in the UP State Legislature (Members' Emoluments and Pension Act 1950), the basic salary of legsilatures' has been hiked from Rs 8,000 month to Rs 10,000 per month.

The constituency allowance for the members has been increased from Rs 22,000 per month to Rs 30,000 per month while the secretary allowance goes up from Rs 10,000 per month to Rs 15,000 per month. Similarly, the medical allowance has been increased from Rs 10,000 per month to Rs 20,000 per month.
