Lucknow: Terming the Dadri lynching incident as "unfortunate", Union Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh today said the Uttar Pradesh government should have taken proper care of the issue as it was a law and order problem.
"The Dadri incident is unfortunate and it should not have happened. But as law and order is a matter of state subject, the Uttar Pradesh government should have taken proper care in this regard," the Minister said after inaugurating a seminar here.
He, however, said, "Our culture and tradition teach us tolerance and co-existence...we cannot depart from it."
To a question on the ongoing on controversy over the beef issue, the Union Minister said "eating habit is a personal issue of an individual but still a vast majority of the country is sensitive about it".
On the issue of price rise, Singh held the states responsible for hording of essential commodities including pulses.
