As Chief Minister of Bihar:
2005 was a turning point in Nitish Kumar's career. In this year, Nitish Kumar led NDA managed to overthrow the 15 years long regime of Lalu-Rabri regime.
As Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar's biggest challenge was to establish the rule of the law in the state and pave the way for development. Nitish succeeded on both fronts. Bihar is no longer a state struggling with law and order problems. On development front, a lot remains to be done but things at least started moving in the right direction. The people of Bihar reposed faith in Nitish Kumar led NDA once again in 2010 assembly elections. In terms of GDP growth rate, Bihar has emerged as the number one state of the country.
Nitish Kumar's journey from Bakhtiyarpur's Munna to Bihar Chief Minister has cost him in terms of his personal relationships. His friends accuse him of getting changed after becoming CM. One of his closest friends, Vijay Krishna, says that Nitish is no longer the same man. But Nitish does not agree with such criticism and denies that he has changed after becoming the CM.
Nitish Kumar, in the meantime, is said to have developed prime ministerial ambitions as well. That is one reason why he has emerged as a vocal opponent of Narendra Modi's emergence as NDA's prime ministerial candidate.
