Mumbai, July 18: Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray may undergo angioplasty on Friday after the Asadh Amavas is over on Thursday, family sources said, says a media report.
Uddhav Thackeray underwent angiography at Lilavati Hospital following a dull chest pain, and now, he is likely to undergo an angioplasty,a procedure to widen narrowed or obstructed arteries.
According to leaders close to the Thackerays, the family decided on July 20 which marks the beginning of the holy month of Shravan.
They said that the Matoshree members wanted to wait till the Asadh Amavas, new moon day, which falls on Thursday.
Amavas is considered an inauspicious day to undertake an important work by Hindus.
Uddhav Thackeray had been complaining of breathlessness and exhaustion for the past few days and Mondays tests revealed that he had gone through a minor heart attack.
His angiography report had shown three blockages in three main arteries one in right artery and one each in two left arteries.
Late on Monday evening, cardiologist Dr Samuel Mathew Kalarickal and chief intensivist Dr Jaleel Parker spent nearly one-and-a-half hours with the politician, explaining him how the blocks were harmful and that he needed to go for a surgery.
Sources said that Uddhav was shaken and his father Bal Thackeray provided him solace by his advice.
Uddhav has preferred angioplasty to bypass surgery. On Tuesday evening,Dr Parker said that he was fine and on symptomatic medicine.
A Sena functionary said: “It was quite shocking that Uddhavji's heart had three major blocks. He is a fitness freak and very careful about the food he eats.
“He regularly plays badminton and goes for long walks towards BKC.”
The functionary said, unlike Balasaheb, who used to smoke heavily and has undergone surgeries for clogging of arteries, Uddhav is a non-smoker. Perhaps stress and frequent travel to rural Maharashtra by roads took a toll on his health, the Shiv Sena leader said.
