Kolkata: With election to 81 civic bodies, including Kolkata Municipal Corporation, due next year and BJP making inroads in the state, a top Trinamool Congress leader today said there would be tough fight in the coming days and asked partymen to remain united.

“Though there was no such issue that Mamata Banerjee was a prime ministerial candidate or Trinamool Congress will come to power, the people of the state gave us 34 seats as they felt that it is only she who will be able to realise the demands for the state's development,” Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee said during an interaction with party workers.

“A phobia is being created by a section of media about a particular party which has led to a situation of tough fight in some areas,” he said.

He told partymen that there was no scope for complacency.  “We have freed Bengal from CPI(M) misrule, we should not allow any other force to take control.”

Without naming BJP, TMC secretary general Partha Chatterjee said “some forces are trying to raise their head.  We should remain alert.”

He said there was a proposal to set up a medical college at Sarsuna in Behala area for which land was being scouted.
