India's fourteenth Prime Minister Narendra Modi won the Vadodara seat on a BJP ticket in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by 5,70,128 votes.
He defeated Congress candidate Madhusudan Mistry from here.
A total 11,43,524 valid votes were cast in the election held on April 30. The constituency, which was held by BJP's Balkrishna Shukla, saw an unprecedented 70.75 per cent votes cast this time, against 49.02 per cent in 2009.
Modi later vacated this seat and retained the Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency. He had defeated Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s chief Arvind Kejriwal from here.
In the by-elections heald last month, BJP's Ranjanben Dhananjay Bhatt defeated Congress candidate Narendra Ambalal Ravat.
Vadodara is one of the 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat. This constituency covers the entire Vadodara district and first held elections in 1957.
