Kolkata: Denying allegations that it resorted to unfair means in the final phase of the Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal today, the ruling Trinamool Congress claimed that the opposition parties were looking for ‘excuses' after being ‘rejected'.

“Congress, CPI(M) and BJP have started looking for excuses as the people have rejected them,” Trinamool Congress spokesman Derek O' Brien said.

“The Opposition allegations are baseless. There are 31, 392 booths. There were one or two stray incidents,” he claimed.

“It ignores Bengal's 31,000 peaceful booths and hypes one or two stray incidents,” O'Brien claimed on Twitter.  “People voting peacefully, fearlessly, wholeheartedly in Bengal ... But in some places CPI(M)-Congress BJP have jointly tried to subvert the democratic process,” he alleged.

Referring to the incident at Haroa in Barasat Lok Sabha constituency where 13 persons were injured in CPI(M)-TMC clash, he alleged that a former CPI(M) panchayat pradhan triggered the incident.

He claimed that 11 TMC were injured in the attack.

Polling was being held today in 17 seats. 14 of them were won by TMC in the 2009 elections.
