The Congress on Tuesday asked BJP not to compare the creation of other small states with that of Telengana, which, it said, has "an entirely separate geo-historical background".
"Telengana has a heterogeneous history. It can't be compared with the creation of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand," Congress leader and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told a press conference in Ranchi.
Replying to a query on BJP President Rajnath Singh's claim that NDA had created states in a peaceful atmosphere unlike the present situation over Telengana, Azad said "Even in the 70s, we had seen largescale agitation on the Telengana issue."
Telengana, he said, was a Nizam state before and sometime after Independence and parts of it were added to neighbouring states.
To a query on Jammu and Kashmir, Azad said "Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have been united, are united and will remain united." PTI
