Hyderabad: The Telangana government today presented its maiden budget, in which it proposed an expenditure of Rs 1, 00,637 crore for 2014-2015. The tax free budget, with revenue deficit of Rs17, 398 crore was presented by State Finance Minister Etela Rajender. While presenting the budget, Rajender said that he was extremely proud to be presenting Telangana's first budget.
He asserted that the budget prepared by his government was in tune with its founder's dream of ‘golden Telangana'.
Remembering the people who laid down their lives for the formation of separate state, the Finance Minister allocated Rs 100 crore of financial assistance to their families. The government has identified families of 459 martyrs who will get Rs 10 lakh each.
The government of Telangana has included planned expenditure of Rs 48,648 crore and non-plan outlay of Rs 51,989 crore.
The Telangana Legislative Assembly's Budget session will continue over a period of a month. In order to accommodate more time to debate, the state government has also decided to convene the House in the evenings and Saturdays as well.
In a press release given by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's office, the Telangana government would like to change certain Acts which are in force since Telangana is a new state.
On 2 June 2014, Telangana was separated from Andhra Pradesh as a new 29th state of India, with Hyderabad as its capital.
Chandrashekar Rao was elected as the first chief minister of Telangana, following elections in which the Telangana Rashtra Samiti party secured majority.
