Karunanidhi had said yesterday that the general council will take a call on alliance formation, but the party seemed to be undecided, going by the resolutions. A total of 23 resolutions were passed but there was no mention about alliance or anything else related to next year's Lok Sabha polls.
DMK sources said different views were put forth by various general council members, including tie-ups with one of the national parties—Congress or BJP.
Many members also suggested to keep away from the national parties, saying DMK could lead an alliance of local parties.
On the issue of alleged attacks on Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan navy, the party resolved that the Centre and state governments should expedite steps for arranging proposed meeting of fishermen associations from India and Sri Lanka in Chennai without any delay.
Among others, it urged the Centre to take steps for the completion of Sethusamudram project, even as the general council criticised it and the ruling AIADMK government for the price rise situation.
