Kolkata: Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) workers held a protest rally today against centre and state government. The protests turned violent after cadres of the left party clashed with the police in Kolkata and the police was instructed to lathicharge to control the crowd.
After several warnings, the police lathicharged SUCI workers as they were trying to push police barricades.
The agitators demand employment for all and a reduction in the price hike that the city has been witnessing in recent months. SUCI workers protested against Mamata Banerjee led government for not solving public problems. They also criticized Modi government for neglecting West Bengal.
Several SUCI workers have been injured in the clash.
