New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has called all-party meet today to ensure the smooth functioning of month-long Winter Session of the Parliament, slated to begin from Monday.
The meeting is designed to identify the issues the parties wish to raise during the session.
A total of 67 bills are pending with the Parliament -- 59 of them in Rajya Sabha and eight in Lok Sabha.
As per the reports, 40 bills are estimated to be ready for introduction, while over two dozens are likely to be passed. The focus is on politically sensitive legislations like the Land Acquisition Bill and the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill.
The Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill is with a Rajya Sabha select committee headed by BJP member Chandan Mitra.
The Janata Parivar, trying to reunite, has vowed to oppose both the bills. The multi-party grouping has a combined strength of 25 in the Upper House.
