New Delhi, Sept 5: Members of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party almost came to blows inside the Rajya Sabha today, as the government introduced the bill to provide reservation to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes in govt job promotions.
Naresh Agrawal, a former Congress leader, now with Samajwadi Party, had a scuffle with BSP member Avtar Singh Karimpuri inside the Rajya Sabha.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and other senior leaders sat silently and watched, while the BJP members, on their part, continued to raise a din over Coalgate demanding the PM's resignation.
BSP leader Mayawati had appealed to the BJP yesterday to help in passage of the promotion quota bill, to which the BJP leaders today replied that Mayawati should first come out in support of the BJP's campaign over Coalgate.
In the din, the minister introduced the bill, and the Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson P C Chacko adjourned the House till 2 pm.
