BJP on Monday accused Agriculture and Food Minister Sharad Pawar of "making a mess" of the food economy of the country and said since he was shifting blame on the Prime Minister and the cabinet, both Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi should respond.
"Sharad Pawar is shifting the blame of price rise on the Prime Minister and the cabinet. Its a very sad spectacle of responsibility being shifted and the common people suffering cruelly because of price rise," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said. He said though the minister was claiming that government godowns were full, the Centre was importing foodgrains at a higher cost.
"Pawar has made a mess of the entire management of food economy in the country," he said. Prasad also took a dig at Pawar's recent contention that there would be a shortage of milk, saying in Patna he was informed by dairy producers that last year alone milk production had risen by three lakh litres.
"Because Pawar is a towering leader, it is high time that not only Manmohan Singh but also Sonia Gandhi respond as to why and how long the people of the country are going to suffer. Biggest fraud has been played with aam admi," he said. Prasad termed Pawar's role as one smacking of irregularity and supporting the cause of middlemen. PTI
