Thiruvananthapuram: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today attacked Narendra Modi-led NDA government over the increasing incidents of communal violence in the country.
"Nothing less than 600 incidents of communal violence in UP and as many in Maharashtra have taken place in a short span. We wonder why all these incidents occurred suddenly after BJP has come to power,” Sonia Gandhi said while addressing the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Executive Meet here.
Referring to communal violence in the state, Sonia Gandhi said, “Incidents of communal violence especially in North have increased in the 11 weeks of new government. This is of great concern to all of us. During UPA 1 and UPA 2 there was not such violence.
"We believe that these incidents are created deliberately to divide the people on caste lines," added Sonia.
Asking party workers to work hard to empower Congress, Sonia Gandhi said, “We should work hard to fight against forces that are dividing the country. We should work to make Congress the party that can carry the hopes of people."
