New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is unlikely to challenge the clean chit that was given to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah in connection with Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

"There is no new evidence or statement on the basis of which discharge can be contested other than points raised by prosecutors earlier in the court," a top CBI official told Times of India.

A special CBI court had discharged Shah in the shootout case related to Sohrabuddin, his wife Kauserbi Sheikh and witness Tulsiram Prajapati in Gujarat in December last year.

Judge MB Gosavi had ruled that there exists ‘no case' against Shah and that he was implicated in the case for ‘political reasons'.

The court also ordered the dropping of charges pertaining to murder, criminal conspiracy and other sections against the BJP chief in the cases dating back to 2005-2006.
